OUR MODUS OPERANDI
WESTERN MODUS OPERANDI FOR CHURNING OUT FUTURE LEADERS, WHO WILL LEAD FOR OTHERS TO FOLLOW:
Small classes: Our classes are not larger than fourteen students per class. The small size of the classes augurs well for teachers and students. It ensures individual attention and fosters a great deal of teacher and student interactions. The small size of the classes also enables the teachers to easily identify weak students and devise immediate strategies to assist these students. In this way “YOUR” child will “NOT” be left behind;
Regular meetings with the principal and the teachers: These meetings are very interactive and is basically a rapport between the principal and the teachers. The objectives of these regular meetings is for the principal to find out the progress of each student. These meetings also provide a forum or platform for teachers to discuss any student who may not be compliant with the rules of the school, or who is striving to make an infamous name for themselves. The limited number of students also eliminates the problems of bullying which is prevalent in most schools with a large student population;
Parent’s day at the beginning of each term: At these meetings parents are given an update on their child’s performance in all subjects. It is also a fine opportunity for parents and teachers to work as a team to weed out any inappropriate behavior exhibited by their child;
Children are not allowed to leave the compound unless permission has been granted: This ensures that the teachers and administrative staff are always able to track the whereabouts of each student;
Lunch is sold at the school at a reasonable price: Students are NOT to leave the school compound during school hours!!!! Students are to purchase the school lunch OR bring a packed lunch from home. Students are provided with nutritious homemade meal, which is s healthier and more economical;
Texting/phoning parents: parents are texted or phoned on a continuous basis: Parents are called or texted if their child has not done their homework, or if a child is disrespectful to teachers or staff. Parents are also notified if their child misses classes;
Email to parents: parents are thoroughly notified about the academic and non-academic activities at the school. For instance, parents receive personal emails of the monthly tests question papers, they also receive the scheme of work for the school. Parents are not kept in the dark about any event/activity at the school. We are practicing transparency in Education;
No cell phone in the class room: Students MUST submit their cell phones on mornings in the office as soon as they enter the compound and their phones are returned to them at the termination of school. This rule prevents students from posting information on line that could damage the reputation of the school. Students are also incapacitated from engaging in fights or promiscuous behavior in an attempt to get their five minutes of infamous glory on social networking sites. The No Cell phone rule in the class room eliminates distractions in the class, as the child is not engage in texting or messaging, or reading emails while the teaching is in front of the class imparting invaluable information;
Security cameras in all classes: This acts as a deterrent to the students who might be inclined to engage in any form of illicit or immoral behaviour .Hey watch out! You are on candid camera, smile!!!!!!!!!!!! .The camera also deters students from engaging in thefts, and it can be used as evidence if a child is indulging themselves in inappropriate conduct;
Students are penalized for not completing homework, and arriving late for classes, without a valid excuse from their guardians: The latter rule teaches the students the importance of punctuality. The former rule teaches the students that classes do not end once the bell rings at 2:10pm. The student must realize that homework is an important form of revision and it teaches the child about discipline and self-control. The child is also able to study on their own away from a class room setting. This enables the child to develop good study habits and to maximize their time wisely. The child who spends an entire night on social networking sites would spend the morning playing catch up with the other students who completed all their homework assignments. This is a recipe for failure and one that the school will not be tolerating.
These are just a sample of the strategies used by Western to mold and shape your children into honourable and useful vessels.
