ONLINE SCHOOLING
HOW IS WESTERN EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTE
STANDING OUT FROM THE REST?
ONE WORD – STRUCTURE
At Western, the structure of classes, the choice of online platforms, the style of delivery of content and the mandatory upload of assignments have made our entry into online schooling smooth enough to help children and parents with the transition yet engaging enough to challenge our students. Since we started in April 2020, we have had three successful terms (July Lessons included) without lessening the curriculum.
WHAT DO WE MEAN BY STRUCTURE?

We have 4 contact classes using the Zoom daily (55mins long) in addition the Google Classroom. Both facilities are paid packages to ensure better security, premium features and additional storage. Zoom Class time is used to explain new topics, correct homework, in- class exercises which include past-paper questions. (Past-papers are used in application & practice catering to raise our students’ application skills & preparation for exams for all forms).
Many schools do NOT incorporate past paper drills as time constraints do not allow while trying to complete the curriculum. Many schools are 40-45 mins for video classes. Some only have 3 or 4 zoom classes or less daily.
At Western, there is a daily structure for all teachers for GOOGLE Classroom uploads. Each Zoom class consists of 1 lesson & 1 assignment.
LESSON - class work (notes, in-class exercises, past-paper questions)
ASSIGNMENT - home work to be uploaded at a set time
Many other schools do NOT have a set structure for uploads . Some teachers there give homework of their choice and some teachers are not required to upload work daily as they are on their own schedule which clashes with other
teachers at times.
At Western, our SET CURRICULUM is executed.
Our set topics & revision questions for the term have NOT changed even though we are online. ALL topics are covered THOROUGHLY with past paper practice and revision.
At Western, dedicated teachers work to prepare content for online learning to MAINTAIN the pace of the students and ensure the coverage of the work.
Other schools have REDUCED the online curriculum as they cannot meet the set requirements. Many schools are NOW in the teething stage with getting accustomed to online learning while Western has set the tone & structure since April 2020. Many schools have just now finished Form 3 term 3 syllabus.
At Western, we have completed term 1 set topics for the new forms already as we completed term 3 work last term in full, plus revision for the academic
year.
As our students have already been conditioned, our classes run as normal school with completing the FULL curriculum online with revision with NO reduction.
The benefits of a paid platform include: class recordings controlled by the principal which students can be allowed access to go over work, daily supervision of staff and students, no security issues to date.
At Western, we have an online discipline code of conduct for staff and students. Attendance, classwork and homework are taken seriously with daily rolls to parents and non-submission reports.
Western has INCREASED Storage on Google to cater for ALL uploads.
Western has MAINTAINED normal Monthly Assessments for testing on students’ application of the taught content. Mandatory timed assessments are done with teacher supervision during Zoom classes
Students will be successful with all these additional services implemented at Western Educational Institute once they do what is EXPECTED daily and give their BEST. We want the BEST for our students and will continue to keep working with them to obtain their full potential.
